Interview with Thomas Rhys Evans, Lecturer in Occupational Psychology at the University of Coventry.
Many researchers are requesting a moratorium for emotional intelligence as it is often claimed to have the clarity of an inkblot. As such, misunderstanding and misuse is common; which further perpetuates the problem.
Thomas discusses his views on emotional intelligence conceptualising it as an umbrella term for emotional abilities, competencies (learnt skills and behaviours) and traits, that can be a useful way to develop understanding of emotional intelligence and improve its application.
This interview was recorded when Thomas gave a presentation – Emotional Intelligence: Are We Just Trying to Nail Jelly to the Wall? – to the NW Association for Business Psychology in Autumn 2015.
