A Reflective Overview of the Course
This course explores personal agency, inner steadiness and the capacity to shape experience from the inside out. It draws on established psychological principles and invites participants to examine the patterns that influence their choices, behaviour and sense of possibility. The focus is on cultivating an internal orientation that supports clarity, resilience and purposeful action.
The material is structured to help learners recognise where they give away authority, how they interpret events and how they can shift towards a more grounded and intentional way of living.
About Roger K. Allen, PhD
Roger K. Allen has spent many years working in personal development and family systems. His work centres on helping individuals recognise unhelpful patterns and replace them with more constructive internal habits. His approach is practical and psychologically informed, with an emphasis on strengthening self‑awareness and personal responsibility.
Course Themes
Claiming Joy
This section introduces principles from positive psychology and the science of wellbeing. The emphasis is on understanding how internal orientation shapes emotional experience. Participants explore how meaning, attention and interpretation influence their sense of fulfilment. The aim is to build a more stable internal foundation rather than relying on external conditions.
Claiming Ownership
Here the focus shifts to agency. Participants examine the ways in which they may have adopted a passive stance in their own lives. The work involves recognising patterns of avoidance, resignation or dependency and replacing them with a more active and responsible approach. This is not about blame. It is about reclaiming authorship.
Claiming Your Power
This section draws on cognitive behavioural principles to help participants understand how thoughts, interpretations and beliefs shape behaviour. The emphasis is on developing the capacity to respond rather than react. Learners explore how to navigate setbacks with greater clarity and how to create conditions for more intentional action.
Claiming Your Story
Participants examine the narratives they hold about themselves and their lives. The work involves identifying limiting stories, understanding how they were formed and creating new narratives that are more aligned with their values and aspirations. This is a process of reframing, not denial. It supports a more accurate and compassionate self‑view.
Purpose Statement
Dr Allen describes his purpose as teaching strategies that replace negative patterns with a more constructive internal state from which individuals can pursue meaningful goals and live with greater ease.
