Recognising Stress

How you manage stress is affected by the way that you react to stressful situations. Different people react to different situations in different ways.  Your reaction will be affected by factors both inside and outside of work.  Your way of responding will be influenced by how you’ve coped with similar situations in the past and how successful you were in managing your stress and anxiety at the time. It will also be influenced by your personality.

When you’re able to cope, you’re able to be flexible and adaptable and are able to place your strengths and have a healthy outlook.  This is normal for you.  When stressed, you start to lose your perspective, feel that you’re losing control and react in exaggerated and immature ways.  When under extreme stress, you become irrational, act out of character and lose control.  However, what you find stressful today may not necessarily be stressful to you tomorrow or the day after.
